First ever CTFISHERMAN.COM KIDS ON ICE

Where: Silver Lake, Berlin, Ct.
State boat launch
When: SUNDAY January 25, 2015 (postponed from 24th)
Time : 8am-2pm
Pizza delivery lunch break at 12:30 p.m. Weigh in for prizes 12 pm. For those who want to fish more, we'll be on the ice until 2pm or later.
All CTF members' kids, and guests' kids are welcome. FREE entry. Every kid will win something.

Rules: There are no rules, put kids on fish!
This is a CTF family-oriented event, and would like to keep the most of the action limited to an area that we can all join in the fun, walk around see what everyone else is doing, high five someone who catches, and be very social. We will need some volunteers to help drill holes, assist the kids, and a designated person to walk or skate around with a tournament scale, sign kids in, weigh in, and even take pictures. Please post here or PM Mitch or myself if you're interested.
Prizes will be awarded by catagory:
Heaviest panfish, (sunfish species)
Heaviest bass
Heaviest pickerel
Heaviest “other” (crappie, perch, catfish, or trout, etc.)
Option to catch & release if we have a dedicated weigh-in helper.
There will be plastic cups of jigging bait and jigs at the sign up area.


bring your own bait bucket for the shiners in the same location.

If my out of state work doesn't formalize I will plan to attend either with my kids and/or with other ice fishing buddies and help out. I can't commit yet.

This will be a great event! I am sure there will be a lot of CTF helpers for this event.

Alex hit 16 in October but he says he would be interested in helping out.

I am In with my two girls Jadyn '9' and Vivian almost'4'. I have lots of tip ups that were given to me from my Canadian step father,a hand auger, 2 sleds. I have never been ice fishing before.If its ok I will see if my brother and his son '10' also my buddy Jeff and his son Phil '9' and his daughter Lilly'7'they are not members yet, but huge fish heads.

I would like to bring the kids by to visit - maybe pull in one of Dons big fish!

Tim - You better line up the taxidermist right now brotha! Bring some newspaper, tin foil, plastic garbage bags, and a cooler for proper pre-taxidermy prep.

Can someone come up with a list of items that might be good to bring?

Items to make the day more enjoyable, safer, etc....

Kayley is considering it - I haven't ice fished since I was a kid....

Me with 3 to 4 kids. I'll help with weighing in the fish (on my skates)and drilling holes. I'll bring 3 tables.

firehawk: We'll have so much gear on the ice people passing by will think Cabelas just moved outside and on the lake. For those who have never, or don't know anything about icefishing.....as long as you show up dressed warm fellow CTFers will take you under their icewings and provide everything else. If in addition to dressing warm they can pick up $5 stretch on boot cleats (if it's glaze ice and there is no snow cover for traction.....note you can also just use a screwdriver and screw some 1/4" long sheet metal screws into your boot treads for traction and they won't pierce into your soles and into your feet), and $5-$10 safety hand spikes (although the ice will be plenty thick or we won't be having the event).

Non icefisherpeople who have questions keep asking and we'll fill you in so you can show up feeling prepared and/or taken care of at the event....no worries. It's always a fun time on the ice, fish or no fish, but Silver will produce fish.

I hope there are some gas augers.

I have a gas auger and plan to help out.

I'll also bring a fire pit to set up on the ice for people that get cold. I'm not sure what I have for wood but will bring a few yrs worth.

How can I help? I dont have any gear - can I bring food or something?
I am not sure how long my kids will last until they are cold (they are only four and six)
Although DonP will probably chime in that they will outlast me!

Tim I am sure you will be trying to convince them they're getting cold so you can leave like always, and you'll be dragging them off the ice like usual with them literally crying, "Dad we want to stay!......Dad we aren't cold!......"

My Nephew and Niece, Bohdi and Kenzie, 8 and 6 will go, and my sister and me.

If you don't have a kid rent one from a friend. This will be a blast for all young and old. Tons of great prizes for every kid that shows and signs up to fish.

I will be there with my grandson, Cody (8 yrs old). My wife and son will be coming along too. I will have a gas auger to help out. I am planning on bringing equipment and supplies needed to make hot coco for everyone to enjoy.

I would like to volunteer to drill some holes with my electric auger. Hopefully can get my cousins kids to come!

Couple of reminder:
When you go on the ice, look for the crew with the sign up sheet,and scale. Bring a bait bucket of some kind. They have jigging bait in little cups, with some panfish jigs, and shiners in a a big cooler.
I have no idea how the day will go, let's just roll with it. I'm thinking everyone sticks in the same area, we weigh in near 12 pm, then pizza/ kid friendly drinks near 12:30 pm. Village Pizza is set !
I have been filled in that they have good results going down the launch and kind of to the right and straight. Not sure if there is a porto potty there, maybe someone can bring a shanty and a bucket ?
Who knows what weather will bring us, if it's going to be nasty, we'll have to postpone it for a while. Cross our fingers !!

I was there for a few hours Friday...there is NO porto potty. Fishing was very slow but did jig some tiny gills and calicos.

My wife and I will be attending along with my Sister in law and a friend from work. (4 adults)

The kids will be:

Please let me know which pizza place is picked. Some of the kids have a peanut allergy and the mother want's to call the pizza place.

just to throw this out there my daughter is autistic. she loves to grab peoples fish and throw them back into water. and god only knows she'll probably run by and set off ur flags.

depending on the time frame of the storm i maybe plowing and towing. so i'll be in zombie mode

ok great put me down i will bring my 8 and ten year old ! maybe the little one also, we will see.

With the date change, it looks like we can make it. My three boys are Alex (15) Michael (12) and Ethan (9) We'll Bring along some eats (Michael is a Boy Scout and loves the cooking outside thing. I'll have to check with him on what we're bringing.)

Great call on postponing until Sunday P Dona & Mitch! I don't know about Berlin, but we have 5" of snow here in Deep River, CT....and yesterday they only forecasted 1"-2" for here throughout the entire day for the storm.

It JUST switched to rain, so I gotta go hit it with the snowblower now while I can!

It's gonna be a messy day.

I believe the last time I fished with Kapt we were at Winshester Lake and along the day we got bored and the next thing I knew was I was dumped out of the JetSled behind Kapt's quad and my forehead was trickling blood! Good Times!!!

so there will be bait to fish with? i only have one tipup for the kids to use and some rods. dont really ice fish much just want to take them out and do something to get them outside.

We have jigging bait and shiners for tip ups for everyone. Look for the green cooler. BRING A BAIT BUCKET
Anyone have a livewell to put them in ? I just have a D cell aerator and the cooler.
