I have an idea. why dont we form a group called the CCF. The Connecticut Cougar Foundation. We will collect about 100 game cameras and station them all along small rivers and game trails in NWCT/MA in People's, MDCColebrook/Hogsback, Algonquin, Granville and Tunxis State forrests. That together is close to 20,000 acres. we will do this after deer season in december/january and if there are mountian lions we might get a picture of one. It's worth a shot.

i work for a local highway dept in litchfield county, and twice within a week, we saw a cat cross the road in front of us, were all hunters and fisherman so where pretty well aquainted with our wildlife, but we had no idea what this cat was, it was much taller than a bobcat, although we were pretty sure it wasnt a mountain lion, it had the ears of a bobcat and a long tail,,,now looking at your pics of Caracal's, i,m willing to bet that is what it was,,,,thanks for the info

I heard yesterday from a resident that there is some kind of predator in Bethany attacking animals receintly. It attacked 2 Lamas someone had fenced in - and another Lama in a separate incident can anyone else confirm the story?
He read it in the "Amity Observer" in an artical called "What's killing Amity's livestock"
According to the artical the animals weren't really eaten just torn apart (big time). An investigator said the claw marks were consistent with those made by a bear or a large cat.
Serval is another cat possibility, Looks more like a lepord in color but has a body make up more similar to a cougar. The head ia much smaller & the ears are huge.

Mitch, whos that lionus in your post In spite of all that is said, mountain lions are in conn. A good friend of mine who has spent his whole life in the woods hunting has see very large tracks and not those of a bobcat size...When an attack occurs" and it will ", that will be the only time the state will admit it, plain and simple....

ctguy923-I have heard of 1 other caracal siting, I believe it is because someone transported these exotic cats and let them go. That's probably what you saw if it wasn't a bobcat.
Personally I don't believe that there are many cougars in CT if any at all. I have only seen 1 video taken in CT from a friend, of a cat that looks a bit like a cougar. We played it numerous times but couldn't tell, it was a distance away and the picture was kinda blurry.

The DEP got a coyote land trapping season passed for dec & jan. I already took the course, so if anyone out there has at least ten acres and a coyote problem PM me.
