The Eastern Coyote is reported by biological studies to have crossbred with Grey wolves at some point while moving from the western part of the country to the eastern part.
I've heard reports of wolves in northern Maine but we don't have any proof of a wild population in CT. It's possible that someone got one in another state, brought it into CT illegally, then let it go.
You probably saw one of our well fed Eastern Coyotes. They have plenty of food around here (your neighbor's cat, chickens, deer, etc.) so they are growing pretty large, and they don't have any natural predators higher than them on the food chain to keep them in check.
