ATTENTION BOATERS USING STATE OF CONNECTICUT BOAT LAUNCHES

PREVENTING STORM DAMAGE AND LONG TERM BOATING DISRUPTION

-DOCK and PORTABLE TOILET REMOVAL-

A strong storm system is forecast to affect Connecticut early next week. The exact timing of this storm is uncertain. However, it is predicted to occur on or near a full moon. Normally higher tides during this period combined with a storm surge will greatly increase the risk of damage to our boat launch facilities. In order to minimize storm damage to and long-term disruption of boat launch operations, preparations are underway to remove courtesy docks and portable toilets at State boat launches.

Although, the affected docks are normally pulled by November 15, we believe that this early action will benefit boaters by preventing damage to docks and will avoid lengthy delays to restoring normal boat launch activities next season. All courtesy docks will be removed by Saturday afternoon.

Courtesy docks will be removed from these launches:

BANTAM LAKE - Morris
BARN ISLAND - Stonington
BAYBERRY LANE - Groton
CONNECTICUT RIVER - Haddam Meadows
CONNECTICUT RIVER / SALMON RIVER - East Haddam
COVENTRY LAKE -Coventry
INDIAN WELL - Housatonic River
LAKE ZOAR - Southbury
*NIANTIC RIVER - Waterford
THAMES RIVER - Groton
THAMES RIVER - New London
Higher than normal traffic is expected at the boat launches in advance of the storm. In order to help keep this traffic moving freely, please be courteous and practice good boat ramp etiquette. If you are removing your boat as part of your storm preparation, DEEP Boating Assistants will be able to assist you at these locations. (FRIDAY) Niantic, till 3:00PM, (SATURDAY) Barn Island, Bayberry, Niantic 8:00AM – 3:00PM, (SUNDAY) Barn Island 8:00AM-11:00AM, Bayberry 12:00PM – 3:00PM, Niantic 8:00AM – 3:00PM.

Portable toilets will be removed from these launches:
