yesterday I had some unexpected free time pop up so I jumped in the truck to do a little quiet time trout fishing in the farmington river. I haven't been up that way all year. I usually start my run in unionville. on my second stop i noticed something new. PRIVATE PROPERTY NO TRESPASSING signs in one of my long time honey holes. just off rt 44 in canton is town bridge rd. as long as I've been fishing, people have parked along side the road and fished a nice little stretch of the farm there. there were even town owned and town emptied steel garbage cans on either side of the road for people that use that parking area. the trees on either side of the road also had several different DEEP signs indicating the trophy trout area regulations and some other DEEP signage also. all the DEEP signs have been removed from the trees and replaced with NO TRESPASSING signs. WTF! is this some work by some tree hugger group to keep us from fishing the area? i always assumed it was town property, hence the garbage cans.

i continued upstream and a few spots later in barkhamstead it happens again!!! on east river rd directly across the river from the little league ball field is a crescent shaped parking area that holds probly 3 cars. for years its been a regular spot for many fly fisherman. the trees right at the spot had the appropriate DEEP regulation signage. the signs have been removed from the trees. PRIVATE PROPERTY NO TRESPASSING signs have been put up and both ends of the parking area have been blocked of with steel cables running from tree to tree at roads edge.

what happened to these areas since i fished them last year?
