So now I have people with limited experience shooting guns in my back yard. Not to say I bought my dream house that had all the peace and quiet I wanted. If he was back there hunting and blew off 3-4 shots I wouldn't give 2 @#$%^ but when it goes on for 3-4 hours at a clip yea I have a problem.
It doesn't sound like you've had a bad experience with him yet - obviously there isn't much you can do to stop him but if you're on ok terms with him perhaps you introduce yourself as a shooter and ask if he'd mind you joining him sometime. At least you could get a first hand look at what he's got going on back there for safety without any tension & you'd be in a better position to make friendly suggestions should something look like it might not be safe.
Doesn't help you with the noise, but at least you'd know which direction they're shooting & what he's got for a backdrop etc.
