Just got a call back, what a crock of $hit....the guy claims they are for personal use and the officer says he has to believe him cause they are not going to follow him to see if he's selling them... so once again we get nowhere and we sit back and watch our bait stocks get illegally raped and have to swallow it...this blows...

So taking 1,000-1,500 a day per boat everyday can be considered personal use? I understand where the DEP is coming from b/c where's the proof. No proof = no ticket/arrest. At the same time, every other fisherman has to suffer the consequences. Just not fair.
I had a feeling this would work out this way. I am guessing DEP is just stretched too thin with no bodget to properly pursue this.
I hope I am wrong.

It's all just wrong, basically any poacher can flat out lie and because they are understaffed they have to believe them and let them continue with illegal activity while law abiding fisherman suffer the consequences... I love this system:...its basically fishery anarchy cause there are no repercussions...

I wouldn't give up yet fellas. If I was the officer and I had a partner waiting in an unmarked car to follow them I surely wouldn't tell a soul. Lets hope that the DEP is on this like white on rice at an illegal tautog suhi bar. My gut tells me that the Captain might have a few tricks up his sleeve for you.
