im sure there will be a few that do it but the majority wont, theres limited time during the year they occupy the same water column and thats spring and the dead of summer, most of the salmon are caught in crystal by springtime and during the heat of summer the salmon are struggling to stay alive and arent in the mood to eat,the thing with the salmon is thier usually surface or shallow water fish until forced deep by the heat. the longer they live in the lake the better chance they will switch to herring but most are caught way before then.

This is what gets me(Anglers should be aware that the section of the Naugatuck River in the Beacon Falls area along the RR tracks in Naugatuck State Forest is no longer stocked due to safety concerns). They have been stocking this section 15 years and the last 3 years it has become a safety hazard or it the RR saying they don't want you crossing the RR tracks. Haven't heard of anybody getting hit by a train.

the reason for the crash in size for trout at crystal is its way overstocked with trout just like east twin,10-12000 or something like that, way too many.

So lets add salmon in the mix.

Hey Mark im not trying to pic a fight and you make very good points, specially about most of the salmon being gone by early spring.

I am no biologist and have never taken a salmon to actually look inside its stomach. The ones that I have caught on the ice have been on live bait. I could be wrong but to me it would seem like another species targetting the limited bait Crystal and other lakes have.

On another note, I don't really fish for trout anymore in CT its just not worth the time, gas, and money.
