The Eastern Coyote is reported by biological studies to have crossbred with Grey wolves at some point while moving from the western part of the country to the eastern part.

I've heard reports of wolves in northern Maine but we don't have any proof of a wild population in CT. It's possible that someone got one in another state, brought it into CT illegally, then let it go.

You probably saw one of our well fed Eastern Coyotes. They have plenty of food around here (your neighbor's cat, chickens, deer, etc.) so they are growing pretty large, and they don't have any natural predators higher than them on the food chain to keep them in check.

Here's a good book with a lot of info about the Eastern Coyote, available at the DEP store (you didn't know that I was including commercials in my posts did you!)

Same Here, the only good yote is a dead yote.
I've lost way to many cats to them.

I've waited two weeks expecting someone else to point out the obvious: There can't be any wolves in CT because they're afraid of the Mountain Lions! wink

Well....... The ONE good thing about coyotes........ they clean up the idiot's messes! (not you will) I remember when I was a kid, if someone wounded a deer it would run around for weeks ( shot a couple that were filled with green infection ) now the coyotes will run the wounded deer down and leave a pile of bones and fur. Also when and idiot dresses a deer in the wrong spot it used to change there patterns for a while, now the guts are gone overnight. I havent shot a coyote yet, seen a few but never touched off. I am a little weird about shooting things that are not going to be consumed. The one thing that sucks is what happend to Will, if you dont recover your deer the same day, chances are your going to find an assless deer in the morning.
