You know guys. The kid is asking a perfectly honest question and he gets a bunch of bull ***** answers. Don't bother posting if you can't help. You just show your ignorance. I talked to the fisheries people a while ago about the different patterns on Brown Trout. They said it's no different then humans having different color hair. Unless your in a lake that has seeforellen browns it is just different genetics.
If there are fish to catch. I'll be there to my end.

It's a brown trout alright, over the years I've witnessed many color variations in that species as well as other trout, more noticeably in the holder-overs and older fish. Mainly depends on their environment which can have noticeable effects on skin patterns and/or alterations in skin color. Just wondering did your fish come out of the Farmington or a lake?
Fishing the Salmon River I noticed that the browns were usually darker in color than the fish caught I've caught in weed-bed areas on the Housatonic up in the Cornwall area. They looked more like your brown which I believe is more to the fish's ability to camouflage. As Don mentioned, genetics along with habitat, diet all play a part.

It sure looks a lot like one of the 5-8" browns that I got in front of my former house. Does the area you got that 1 in have a spawning population? It was great fun to watch them spawn, true fish porn! If so it may well be a "native" fish, pure speculation, of course.

Check the coloration and pattern out on this brown, almost like a tiger trout. The fish was caught in the Upper TMA of the Farmy. Pretty good size fish too.

Thanks for all the informations guys. Wasn't trying to get everyone worked up. Just so everyone knows, this fish and several others like it were caught in Lake Mashapaug. Hope everyone has a great holiday season!!
