I purchase a State Park Pass every year. I feel its worth the money with the number of times we go to Candlewood and the Beaches in general.
At $67 a pop- it upsets me that I am going to have to purchase 2 - one for each vehicle because you have to have it on the windshield. I really can only afford one, but in the long run the pass is cheaper than the entrance fees.
We use a pick up to tow our boat - so we put the sticker on the pickup. There are weekends were my husband needs the pickup- I would love to hit the beach or another State park with my son but I would have to pay because my pass is on the other vehicle.
I am sure there are others that feel the same way. Has any alternative been looked at? What about creating some form of a 'certificate' that allows maybe 2 registrations (Or proof of with license plate numbers ) on it and maybe have it with the State of CT seal... so that the DEP employee can just check the plates? I mean its a simple idea in theroy- but maybe more complicated in other means.
Its just upsetting to have to buy two passes- one for each car.

I hope that maybe in the future another means of State Park passes can be developed.

Not sure where else to post-- I just wanted to be heard.
Thanks!

A little known FACT. Go to your local library (and have a valid library card), and sign out a FREE State Park pass. It is a good thing.

I fish fresh and salt as well as crab.Streams,rivers,ponds,lakes,bays,oceans.I buy a license so I can keep when I am going to eat it and throw back when I am not.

You don't have to pay to GO TO a State Park. You have to pay to PARK at SOME State Parks. You can walk in to any of them for free. It's either that or your taxes go up.

I'm in the same boat, I used to be a yearly subscriber, but in recent years I gave up on buying them. It's simply too much to get one for each vehicle. We usually go with the library passes now, but still there's a waiting list and if your day is a rainy one, oh well.

Yep, I live right across from a state park and we always walk in. My point is that I was raised/taught that city, state, national, etc. parks were my property as a taxpayer. I'm not arguing against what has had to be done to try to correct the wrongs of the political budgets. Just saying that it is a sad day...

I know about the library passes- as does the rest of the town. They are not always easy to get. Its an option yes, but its more like a raffle... your in or your out for that pass.

I've heard of a camp in Maine where the dump sticker is on a piece of cling wrap and goes from car to car.....

Why cant you just stick the pass to a piece of Lexine or plexiglass & move it from vehicle to vehicle? Or does it have the license plate # on it so you cant?

Its Better to be Hated for who you are than loved for who your not..And If you wanna here God laugh ,tell him your plans...

My local landfill charges $60 for the first sticker, you can get a second sticker for your vehicles for another $5 if it is also registered to you.

Why cant the state do something like this for state park passes ?

I used to buy 2 passes a year to the state parksone for my vehicle and one for the wifes ,the family spent lots of time at the parks. Since the fee increase we avoid the parks all together and do not even buy one pass anymore.
