"maintained"

That must be a loose definition?

Also roads shown on the map - which map, are there official maps? Plus there are different symbols used for different roads.

People drive way in on parts on Nehantic.

Use common sense - while I agree - is still a vague term subject to interpretations that can vary.

* At least years ago when I hunted the Adirondack area in NY - to my surprise - shooting from the road was allowed (just not across the road)

If you look on the DEEP website you can find the maps for hunting areas. They are copies of USGS topo maps. They are not the highest quality but you can see the roads on some of them.

When you get into a state forest a maintained road would be one that the state grades, removes downed trees blocking it, etc. There are a lot of homemade roads from 4X4s and log skidders that are not forest roadways. Some of the state forest roads are paved, so obviously those are maintained.

I hate to beat a dead horse on this....but....what about roads that are only seasonally maintained? They close the gates in some areas I hunt during the winter which limits which roads you can drive on. While gated, I would assume these would NOT be considered maintained?

I have no desire to road hunt, just curious.
