All classes must be registered with DEEP and made available to the public if I am correct.
I am an instructor and it takes a team to get these classes up and running and sometimes coordinating everyone's schedule becomes a little bit of a hassle. Be patient, many more will be getting scheduled. Most of us are just getting over the holidays and hunting and back on track with our free time.
Exactly. This is the challenge we have as instructors. Lots of interest, which is a good thing, but only a fairly small group of us delivering the content.
With that said, I'd be happy to help a team teach the course if a class is scheduled for CTF members. Also, the team that I normally teach with usually holds a class in Harwinton in April. Check the website for dates and details.
When I took the class (in 1969) it was run by the NRA. It was called the NRA Safe Hunter course. It was held at our church and we did the shooting part at Suffield Academy. (they had an indoor range)
The fact that I didn't buy a hunting license for a couple years ( it was actually 6) I all of a sudden forgot everything I had been doing safely for 35 years?
I don't mind terribly doing it over again, but access is poor.
In the beginning there was nothing. Even that exploded.
Does anyone have any info on volunteering to instruct and what the requirements are?
He sips his coffee, then looks again toward the woods where he hunted with his father and now hunts with his son. Theres something about this place, he says. And if they were here to speak, all the men who have shared this camp over the decades would answer, Yes, there is.
There's a list of things you need to get accomplished in order to be an instructor.
The process for certification of instructors involves the following steps:
1. Passing score as a student on exams administered in the CE/FS course.
2. Passing score as an applicant on the CE/FS instructor examination.
3. Successful completion of the online Hunter Safety Instructor Training program, which is available at http://www.ormtraining.com
4. Successful teaching of a minimum of 2 hours in a CE/FS course; and an acceptable evaluation from the Chief Instructor supervising the course.
5. Successful interview with the CE/FS Coordinator.
6. Successful completion of the New Instructor Workshop.
You may complete steps 2 – 6 above in any order. Upon receipt of your application, the CE/FS staff will process your background check and send you a second packet of material for your attention. You can find a list of our current courses on our DEP web site at http://www.ct.gov/dep/cwp/view.asp?a=2222&q=320790&depNav_GID=1633.
Please feel free to contact Charles Bruckerhoff, CE/FS Program Coordinator at 860-642-7239 if you have any questions about this certification process.
This is a copy of the email I received from DEEP. I will try to get going on this at some point in the coming months but have a very full plate to contend with currently.
