Hello Friends, My favorite TMA in northern Hamden is still barren of trout as of 3/11 and I was wondering if DEEP is not planning on restocking this area because of continuing bridge construction (Tuttle Ave. access road) preventing the stocking truck from restocking. The bridge looks like it will be finished in a few months after they regrade and repave the road fore and aft of the bridge. Are any trout restocking efforts being hampered by budget cuts/staffing levels at all?? Please keep us posted, thanks...Wags
im also hoping an even disctibution of trout will occur along the naugy, as most of the last 2 years found only the easy access road side spot in campville with a few small trout, which were all quickly taken by loser bucket brigades in an area marked very clearly.
id gladly carry some buckets to spread them out up there.
I want to take the opportunity to give you an update on the status of the TMA stocking. I’ll try to post weekly to keep you informed as to what we are doing. As you know fishing season has closed in many of CT's streams and rivers and a number of lakes and ponds (there are no new regulations in effect for the 2013 season, so refer to the 2012 online Anglers Guide for complete regulations). However, there are plenty of opportunities to wet a line in any of the State's 16 Trout Management Areas as well as all Class 1 Wild Trout Management Areas (which remain open year round for catch-and-release fishing).
3/7/2013 =The Mill River Trout Management Area (TMA) in Fairfield and the Willimantic River Cole Wilde TMA have been stocked this week. Note that the Cole Wilde TMA is fly fishing only.
3/11/13 = The Moosup River Trout Management Area in Plainfield was stocked with brown and rainbow trout late last week. Don't forget you can access the same trout stocking maps that the Inland Fisheries Division use here: Stocking Maps
3/15/2013 = Want to pass along some great fishing opportunities for this weekend as several Trout Management Areas (TMA) have been stocked the past few days: Salmon River TMA, Saugatuck River TMA (fly fishing only), Yantic River TMA, and the Hammonasset River TMA.
3/19/2013 = The Inland Fisheries Division has stocked the Hockanum River Trout Management Area (TMA) and the West Branch Farmington River seasonal TMA (from Goodwin dam (Hartland) downstream to old footbridge abutments located 1.4 miles past Still River confluence and from route 219 bridge (New Hartford) downstream to the route 177 bridge (Unionville)) with brown, brook, and rainbow trout!
“Northern pike are the largest freshwater predatory fish in Connecticut. You will find them cruising shallow backwaters and marshes off rivers right now where they will spawn. Each spring, Inland Fisheries Biologists capture adult pike in nets and traps to stock them into marshes where water levels can be controlled to provide ideal spawning conditions. Last week alone, 157 adult pike were captured in the Connecticut River up to 37 inches long in size! To learn more about pike management in CT read pages 8-9 in the May/June 2011 issue of Connecticut Wildlife magazine
BillG, Thank You for responding, I was getting worried with no response but your response shows we are in touch now. Mill River-Hamden TMA is still devoid of any CnR trout. MANY hardcore fishing folks stopping there looking for that 2nd week of March dump of fish which hasn't happened as of 2pm Wed March 20th leaving disgusted, wondering what happened this year. I can see from your schedule that it'll probably occur but later on than usual. MikeyG sorry to hear those figures occuring, explains alot of why my CnR trout numbers are way down last couple years. DEEP Inland Fisheries Division will be stocking several hundred Seeforellen Brown Trout in waters around the State, similar to this 10+ pound monster that Kensington Hatchery seasonal Glen is holding. Opening Day is April 20, 2013.
Is your equipment up to the task of catching one of these?
