Just got this from Wildlife:

The Wildlife Division is reporting great news today. Our entire package of proposed hunting and trapping regulations were approved today by the Legislative Regulations Review Committee. Effective date is upon filing with the Secretary of State, which should be later this week.

Among the changes are the following:

• Added crossbows as legal archery equipment. Allowed crossbows during the regular archery deer/turkey season on private and state lands, removed obsolete crossbow specifications and amended definition of a loaded crossbow;
• Expanded youth turkey and deer hunter training days to include a full week (7 days) prior to the regular spring turkey and fall shotgun/rifle deer season, defined the level of mentor supervision required;
• Allowed the use of a muzzleloader as a lesser hunting implement during the shotgun/rifle season on state and private lands, removed the 3 shell limitation for shotgun deer hunting on private lands;
• Made provisions for issuing replacement deer tags on designated state lands to meet management objectives;
• Provided an exemption from orange clothing requirement for coyote/fox hunters, except during the firearms deer seasons and fall firearms turkey season;
• Shortened the two-week hunting closure in October by one week, allowed coyote hunting during the closure;
• Provided an internet or telephone method for reporting coyotes or fox taken by hunting methods;
• Adjusted the crow season dates to provide additional hunting opportunity within the federal guidelines;
• Allowed the use of dogs for fall firearms turkey hunting on private lands;
• Changed methods of tagging game birds at private shooting preserves, on regulated dog training areas and during shooting field trial events; and
• Established a season, size/bag limits, legal methods and gear limitations for taking Snapping Turtles, required a snapping turtle trapping endorsement to take snapping turtles.

We will be preparing a general news release and updating changes on our website soon.

It all sounds like common sense regulation to me. Great news. Keep up the good work!

I've got gas and I've got crabs. You wanna go out?

If sunday hunting was just a regulation change we would have been able to hunt on sundays many years ago.
This is a statute change and this can only be done by the legislators.
If you want to see sunday hunting these morons need to go, vote them out.
Don Williams http://www.senatedems.ct.gov/Williams.php he was the most instrumental this year in it not going to vote and this is after Gov. Mallow said he wanted this legislation.
Joe Aresimowicz http://www.housedems.ct.gov/Aresimowicz/index.asp the house leader could have made it go to vote but he didn't.
Ed Meyer http://www.senatedems.ct.gov/Meyer.php He is the chair of the Environment Comm. and he is never for the sportsman in fact if he could single handedly stop fishing, hunting and trapping he would.
Linda Gentile http://www.housedems.ct.gov/Gentile/ she is the co-chair of the environment comm. Just see above for Senator Meyer and you have the same mentality.
Martin Looney http://www.senatedems.ct.gov/Looney.php The last name sums it up. He is the Senate majority leader and no friend of sportsman. He will never let a Sunday hunting bill get to the Senate floor for vote.
John McKinney http://ctsenaterepublicans.com/home-mckinney/ he is a two faced you know what and he might say he is for sportsman but look at his voting history and it will tell you where he stands.

The whole reg package is 22 pages long so it's a bit much to copy/paste into the thread.

I have attached the whole package as a PDF for your viewing pleasure.

Yes, because it requires an archery permit not a firearms hunting license.

Nice work DEEP.

I read the entire PDF this morning, thanks for also posting it here.

I'd like to see the use of dogs for deer recovery in the next changes. Too many deer are lost where a tracking dog could locate it, and it would allow a revenue source for the state through the usual license fees for registered trackers and income from hunters willing to utilize their services.

Also wish Coyote season stayed open during Spring Turkey season.

Start the wish list for next time...
