Can you tell me what is going on with Kenosia lake in Danbury and ice fishing ? The Danbury water dept is kicking people off all city owned lakes for ice fishing even though they allow permits to fish them.
My question with Kenosia is this lake has a state owned public fishing launch site, it's listed as a public place to fish in the state handbook but the city is now kicking people off the lake? If the state posted no fishing then so be it, but I have not seen anything about the lake being closed.

Thanks

It is not a res. and I know people have been fishing it. Great Largie place, been fishing it for 30 years!!!! If I was fishing it I would show my license, don't need a permit because it is not a watershed, and if they told me I had to leave I would say prove it.

Kenosia is an back up watershed the city uses to draw off in the summers up to west lake. The state made them either use it as a watershed or swimming lake, so they closed it to swimming this year. It's been used as a back up Res for 50 years but the state never made a issue of it until now.
They continued to allow fishing all summer, no motors of course but now all of a sudden this past week the water dept and police have been kicking people off Marjorie, today in fact they did it along with west lake and now Kenosia. I fished Kenosia 3 days already this season and now they have a issue, and this lake is a state listed public fishing site.

It's bull, I am going to continue to fish Kenosia until I hear from the state it's closed to ice fishing.

When I went for my res permit last week they told me it was for shore fishing only. I've been ice fishing these reservoirs for over 40 years. Someone has a bug up their butt. I'd be interested to see what getting arrested on the ice would lead to. Nothing posted at any res about staying off the ice. WTF.

I sent a letter to the mayor, who is one running for Gov on the GOP ticket about it. Maybe he can care less about the sportsman vote..

I didn't think they were pulling water from Kenosia for the city because of how bad it was. They are kicking people off of West Lake???? I will ask,Pat at Cwood bait if he heard anything. This is BS!

It's been in the newstimes, the state made them close the lake this summer because you can't use a lake for drinking water and swimming. The pump house next to the playground pumps water up to west lake in times of low water.

Marjorie and other res in the town have a no ice fishing ordinance but I want to know by who? On the other ice fishing site I can't say they had a thread about guys being kicked off yesterday at Marjorie and west lake.

Kenosia and Marjorie are owned by the City of Danbury so they get to make the rules regarding access and to decide if they want to limit you to shore fishing and boat motor types. There are private areas where the state has a right of way or fishing easement, but that does not mean the waterbody is open to ice fishing. The owner of the waterbody if it's private can make those decisions without input from or to the state.
