I disagree entirely. It may have nothing to do with forage or food availability and not everything eats crayfish, especially once they get bigger. I've worked on more than 1 pond that is over-run with crayfish and they now have to use trapping programs where the remove 10,000s of crayfish in every effort but most too small to eat.

One problem the crayfish cause is the lack of submerged aquatic plants. If they run out of food they just graze down all the plants and nothing will grow.

Before I stocked crayfish I'd be sure I knew more about that pond.

i have to agree to disagree, ive never seen a crayfish too big or small a bass wont eat.its a smallmouth and largemouths favorite meal.candlewood ,east twin, lakeville etc all have them.some of the largest bass ive ever caught have been on crawfish.ive never had a bass i could sightcast to turn one down.everything eats them from trout to bass.and they are pure protien.

I guess I wasn't clear - bass certainly eat them but if the issue is not with forage and you have to rely on bass to eat them it might not be the best thing.

Like I said, we have worked on ponds where the crayfish have negatively impacted the fish because they wipe out the plants. There are too many crayfish and not enough fish to eat them. They definitely get too big for fish to eat if your issue is too many smaller fish.
