if I do an overnight trip for stripers and catch a legal fish before midnight and a legal fish after midnight, what can I do to prove I adhered to the 1 fish limit per day?
I was thinking I could take a picture with the time stamp as proof.
Looks like you cannot at any time possess more than the one day limit....Thanks
POSSESSION LIMIT The total number of fish of any species or species group that may be possessed by one person either on the person, on the waters of the state, the shores of these waters, or in any type of vehicle and may not exceed the creel limits for one day
The simple solution is to release the second fish and not have to worry about. The creel reduction was put in place to protect a fish who's numbers were dwindling due to consecutive years of poor recruitment and excessive commercial and recreational harvest...

Yes, eat a Sea Robin instead! Or a seal from Cape Cod Bay.

Hi Joe, Unfortunately you would have to bring the first fish home. If you keep it, then catch another fish the next morning, after midnight, you are now in possession of 2 striped bass for that day. While I can understand the time stamp on the picture, and am not by any means saying your a criminal or doing anything wrong, it would not prove that you caught the other fish on the next day. We have had numerous occasions like this where people have tried to pull a fast on us claiming they caught one striped bass at 11:00 PM and caught the other after midnight the next day when we have been watching them, then pull the cell phone picture time stamp trick. Or, take a picture of only one fish when they caught two the same day. I know it's a hassle, but it would be in your best interest to bring the fish home and come back. Hope this helps.
