I know times are tough but I would love to see some enforcement on this issue.I don't believe I've ever seen a PFD on a paddleboard. West Hill Pond especially.
Paddleboards (SUP)fall under the same pfd requirements as any other manually propelled vessel. Between Oct.1st through May 31 a pfd shall be worn, between June 1st and Sept. 30, a pfd must be on board, but not required to be worn.
So Surfboards, when paddled, are "Manually propelled". are they breaking this requirement when paddling to catch a wave?

My guess is, because they're using a paddle rather than their arms like a traditional surfboard, that puts it under a different category. Either way, they're a real nuisance in a tight channel like Clinton or Guilford! I have no problem with the people that know the rules of navigation, but most people that rent or buy them have no clue.
It is only when you see a mosquito landing on your testicles, that you realize that there is always a way to solve problems without using violence ...

I hear you Jay. My daughter and I kayak a lot. Mystic River, Barn Island, Point Judith and the other salt ponds. Very busy areas. One of the first things I taught Jamie was how to identify the channels and to stay clear. When we do cross channels we cut across as perpendicular as we can and only when its clear. We see people on boards and kayaks just hanging in the channel and I just dont get it. Even if they dont know the rules......there is a line of boats moving that are much bigger then they are....... there are places the big boats dont go.......self preservation if nothing else.

not too many surfers lining up to catch a wave in CT anyway.
In the beginning there was nothing. Even that exploded.
Even if they dont know the rules......there is a line of boats moving that are much bigger then they are....... there are places the big boats dont go.......self preservation if nothing else.
