I found this site trying to do some research on chipmunk eradication. I actually found this thread on squirrels:

http://www.ctfisherman.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/topics/1317846..

I was wondering what if any hunting laws might apply to chipmunks as I didn't realize there was a hunting season, and rules for them (squirrels) so I wanted to see if chipmunks had rules too.

In my research it seems the recommended methods for removing chipmunks are trapping and relocating, some sort of lethal water trap or rat trap or shooting with air rifle or 22lr pistol/rifle. Are all of these legal options for CT residents (keeping in mind I'm on acre of private land)?

I tried for a couple years to motivate them with sprays and repellents but they are really doing damage to walkways, digging under and around our foundation and the gardens this year.

Thanks!

Are these the kind of chipmunks that sneak in your back door?

If so, Jon h will probably take them. He seems like the kind of guy who has a use for small furry animals

Ha thanks for the laugh. There are so many this year I am thinking they're all pretty straight but I guess there's always a few in the crowd who march to their own drummer.

I am no expect on the laws so I do not know what exactly is legal for eradicating them but a pipe works well.
Have a 4-5 foot pipe on the ground near your house near where they like to play.
When you come around the corner or approach a chipmunk they like to go and hide.
They will run into the pipe to hide and that's when you either cap the pipe or turn it upside down and jamb one end into the ground.
Come back a few days later problem solved.

Have fun but remember if you do shot them YOU are responsible for your bullet and where ever it ends up.

There are many ways to get rid of them that do not involve shooting them and having to worry about your bullet.

Good luck and happy hunting, trapping and or eradicating.

That seems to be the easiest route. With 3 young kids always running around the yard it will have to be targeted windows they're used though. The chipmunks seem most active when the kids are up and want to be outside.

Grabbing a few with a suppressed 22lr pistol or pellet gun during the kids nap time seemed like an easy solution too but wasn't sure of any hunting regulations.

You should catch a bunch like mentioned above, then bring them into the DMV and let them go, preferbly Norwich. The more the better.
