The boat, canoe, kayak, etc. has to be registered to use a motor whether gas or electric. They can be used on most bodies of water with the exception of a few. You have to check the fishing regs for specific ones.http://www.ct.gov/deep/cwp/view.asp?a=2696&q=322688&deepNav_GID=1630 Also you will need a Safe Boating Certificate or a Certificate of Personal Watercraft Operation.http://www.ct.gov/deep/cwp/view.asp?a=2686&q=322292&deepNav_GID=1620

Do the "no motor" lakes allow TM's?

Read/download the CT 2016 Anglers Guide online at DEEP or check your paper copy available where licenses are sold, it is a lake-by-lake rule. A common description for many lakes/pond is "Other: Use of internal combustion engines prohibited" which to me means you can use the electric trolling motor. It looks to me other lakes/ponds with "Other: Motors prohibited." means just that, no motors. Hopefully we can get an official post that speaks definitively to this issue.

Ball Pond is a "no motors" lake. It is a Town of New Fairfield ordinance supported by the DEEP. No motors means exactly that, just as Cat stated in his post above; no electric motors, no gas motors, either on a boat or otherwise such as a gas or electric ice auger.
One of the reasons is to provide a nice pond for kayaks, canoes and small sailboats, while Squantz Pond provides for small engine boats up to 25hp, and Candlewood provides for all other sized boats up to about 25'. This gives each group a special place to go without interruption from larger and more powerful craft. It is a safety and quality of experience issue.

there are two lakes in Old Lyme that are near me that i have NEVER seen anyone on... they are both "no motors"

seems like a waste...

that's too bad because they would be perfect lakes for a TM set up.

I would like to see some consistency with the language. I see at least 3 forms of the same thing, yet that results in an unclear message to the angler:

Operation of motorboats prohibited.
Vessels with motors attached prohibited.
Motors prohibited.

Do these 3 things not mean the same thing? Why not ensure the language is uniform?

On inland bodies of water with a 10 hp limit and between one hour before sunrise and one hour after sunset, no boating safety certificate is required for a person operating an electric motor (rated at 106 lbs. of thrust or less). However the vessel must be registered. Be advised some lakes and ponds prohibit all motors and some just internal combustion, most are listed in the boating guide, those that are not may have regulations from their respective towns.

Thanks for the Inform but it would be great if the state would make the regulations standard for all lakes and ponds for electric motors, there is no good reason why you should not be allowed to use electric motor in all waters other than some towns regulations. Lake Saltonstall in Branford is a water supply and they allow electric motors

Maybe those towns with a no motors regulation actually own the pond and provides public access through a good will initiative. Maybe if the state tried to make all ponds open for electric motors some of these currently available bodies of water would then be off limits to the public. How would that turn of events be received?
