There are plenty of ways to feed a family.....stealing from grocery stores, or raiding the natural resources is NOT the way....and only raises more criminals into the system and society.

DEEP field officers must be banging their heads against the wall and wondering why they get up in the morning and go to work when cases like this and MANY others get tossed out or slapped on the wrist.

I feel for the DEEP field officers....their hands are tied, and it must be very frustrating and hard to put on the uniform with "cases" like these.

Enforce/prosecute the laws or remove them...that simple.

I once saw an inmate settle a melted ice cream case for $5000 because it would have cost more to fight the frivolous law suit. This happens all the time. Now you can see why the minor drug laws are releasing addicts and dealers back to the streets to continue with their criminal activity. On a bigger issue the Death Penalty in Connecticut was repealed due to the costs which can run into the millions of dollars because we the people have to pay for legal representation for the dirt bags to appeal their case multiple times as the ACLU and other organizations waste the courts time to see justice done.

The best way to address this is to bombard your State Reps with e-mails telling them of your concerns and vote in November. Let the politicians know that if they aren't going to represent the people and our concerns they will be replaced.

It gets very frustrating for LEO's who try to do their jobs watch as dirt balls are consistently released back to the street after countless hours of paperwork they prepared to bring the case to trial.

Malloy is currently on a mission to reform the minor offense laws to release criminals back to the streets. One such issue is the release of sexual predators into community release programs. Another is the reduction of possession amounts of marijuana! I work in a big retail store and daily I work with young customers that smell like they slept in a disgusting moldy basement all night! The stench is horrendous. The only thing he is doing is giving the youth of this state the Green Light to get high which eventually leads to the use of harder narcotics. In the end we are now paying for Law Enforcement, who are doing an awesome job, to expend all their resources in combating enormous amounts of drug overdoses.

In the end, poaching doesn't even rate for criminal prosecution. There should have been some level of consequence to deter further acts of poaching but now the Green Light was again given for more illegal activity to occur.

Your question has been answered above. These infractions are a waste of time for the court system.

I know there will always be stupid in the world, but if the court systems are looking to cut down on the number of people in the jail systems, but maybe much stiffer penalties and consistent follow through will cause many who actually weigh the risk before they commit the crime to not do it. I'm also all for making jails into work places where the inmates produce something that the state can make money off of. They should definitely earn their keep. No need to worry about wasting money on them if they are making money or at least breaking even.

Agreed! There is NO reason inmates can't WORK in prison, and CONTRIBUTE "Free" high tax dollar Labor back into the State.

At least:

-tie bottom fishing rigs
-pour soft plastics
-low risk inmates can pour lead jig heads, bank sinkers, etc....
-perform reel maintenance
-spool reels
-process DMV transactions (with personal info redacted)
-high risk inmates can farm and pack a dozen crawlers into tubs, use the food waste as crawler compost....sell topsoil from the crawler compost soil
-etc......

This isn't rocket science State of CT !!! WE Are Paying For These Criminals To Live More Comfortably Than Many Of OUR CT Free Walking Residents!!!......PUT INMATES TO WORK!!!....plenty of lemonade to be made here! Very little CT System ingenuity apparent to this CT high taxpayer.

Also agree that penalties NEED to deter the criminal benefit.....pretty simple concept. Once crime pays, as it does now, crimes will proliferate, as they do now. Cases thrown out of court, hand slap "penalties", etc Do Not deter crime....they advertise for doing more crime. You wonder why courts and prisons are "overcrowded".....it's because there is no teeth in the system, even dumb criminals realize it, and crime pays in our current "system" which is a defunct "system."
