Well gee, as states and municipalities run radar/stoplight camera traps for revenue generation, someone should advise our governor that fines for wildlife/fish poaching can also generate state revenue if sufficiently hefty...(DUH!)....do the right thing for the wrong reason, poaching gets discouraged, natural resources get protected. Government revenue enhancement will win over liberal criminal policies every time in this state anyway.

No, unfortunately they do not. They have no control whatsoever about what the courts do, they only make the arrest. Once it goes before the prosecutor/judge it's up to them not DEEP. I'd be willing to bet they are as frustrated as we are in cases like this.

You can say anything foolish to a dog, and that dog will still give you a look that says, "WOW!! What a great idea!! I never would have thought of that!!"

DEEP Field Officers have got to be MUCH more frustrated than we are...IMO...and where my bet is. They do good work, and do what they can as a cog in the wheel, but then their efforts go wasted and they get slapped in the face in cases like these and MANY others....it's a shame.

Count me as one who is not looking for any explanation from Enconn . It seems they did their job , a complaint was made , investigated , and charges filed . That is where the enforcement end stops . The adjudication process is broken . Enforcement may seem lacking but I seem to remember Skip saying that with the staffing levels these days there may be 3-4 Officers covering the State on any given shift . One can only hope that in this case there was money spent/lost on an attorney and/or time off from work in lieu of actual fines . Any "answers" at this point should come from the prosecuting attorney and the Judge on the bench . Coming in here as a representative of Enconn and bashing the judicial system might not be a career enhancing move , ya know ?

.

"Politically correct" was initially coined by Leon Trotsky to refer favorably to those whose views remained in sync with the ever-shifting Bolshevik Party line. This was important, as "not PC" people risked prison or death.

The fact is, if you are a first or second generation immigrant who speaks in broken English - legal or not - your case is going to be tossed out.

If you are a hard working, legal, taxpaying American who breaks the rules. Pay up. It is as simple as that.

*Violation of sport fishing regulations (includes closed season, bag and size limits, methods of take and specific area restrictions: $154.00 per count

*Fishing without a license: $87.00

Hydri Cenkoli, age 60, of Woodbury, Daniel Cenkoli, age 32, of Waterbury, Bilbil Cenkoli, age 57, of Waterbury, and Gurali Cenkoli, age 46, of Woodbury for possession of 38 striped bass, all of which were less than the minimum legal length and for possession of striped bass over the daily creel limit.

$154.00 per count X 38 fish =$5852.00

If they were fishing without a license 4 X $87.00 = $348.00

Total $6200.00

How is $6200.00 a waste of the courts time?

They never enforce those fines. You could say they have bigger fish to fry. Probably the same reason they move to settle speeding tickets, rather than tying up the courts. It is a wast of time for the courts when there are real crimes being prosecuted and tried.

Think outside the box a bit. All the time and effort law enforcement puts forward in "enforcing the laws" is very often swept under the rug, or becomes a long and costly affair. That is what you call efficiency !! Lawyers, state and Federal staff as well as politicians have a milking process, from the tit of the tax-payers. The volume, process and overall lack of efficiency is endless. But, I will take our justice system over most of the world's countries. Ha !

Factor into the big picture a bunch of Sea Bass, undersized stripers, over limit trout, etc. Or, even "unauthorized use of trails and woods". They do not care. I was charged with "unauthorized use of trails and woods" twice back in the day, went to court and a swift "nolle". A complete waste of time.

If we cannot convict, then why arrest and prosecute (or even attempt to prosecute) ?

WWJD ?
