Piketoberfest XVIII: Sun, Oct. 20, 2019 RESULTS 1ST PLACE CHAMPION - Baldpelican 25 3/4" 2ND PLACE by raffle - KeyWest Glenn 3RD PLACE by raffle - PaulD Remainder of prize money, Scotty J, and P.Dona Pictures to follow. Beautiful day may have played a factor of the pike bite. Thinking of changing the picnic time to 3 or 3:30 pm, Thoughts ?
This is a Connecticut river northern pike, a subspecies currently being considered for listing under the Federal endangered species Act. Caught on a Smithwick perfect 10 rogue using a slow steady cranking retrieve after long casts using a spinning rod, 20lb test braid, tied to 2 ft 20 lb test fluoro leader tied to ~18 inches 20 lb test surflon micro supreme camo wire and a small cross-lock snap. Thanks to Paul, Mitch and all the organizers and those who donated prizes for a great event. Thanks to Riverroamer for a good day of fishing and the net job. It was good fun talking and meeting others after fishing!
There is a picture up there, the only fish landed all day. I set the hook on a decent fish but I cane unbuttoned afterwords, no clue what it was. Then I had a bump, kept reeling and another bump, still not on as the lure came into view a respectable size pine flairs it’s gills and and gives it one more bump as it flashed the boat broad side. After a few casts we gave the area a rest and came back to nothing. Still not a bad day for fishing the after party was great, I came close to placing in the raffle but it wasn’t my day.

Had a fun day fishing with Paul for the first time together on his boat.
Making a move after the morning fog had lifted.
We've certainly had worse weather at Piketoberfest.
This boat has seen better days.
A few boats in Chapmans.
Paul continuing to work from the bow.
Lunker for the day.
Despite our best efforts, we could only manage a few hits on lures and baits, but we got nothing to the boat.
Thanks to Paul, Kapt. Ron & Hooker Beer for the nice line-up of prizes.
Congrats to BaldPelican for getting it done and catching the lone pike to claim victory!
With no other fish caught. Second and third place prizes were awarded via raffle. Key West Glenn was so happy to be "winning" via this route again. He took home the 2nd place prizes.
Murph was the lucky 3rd place winner. (sorry Murph, I missed getting a pic of your glorious win).
Glenn going to work again this year with his portable fire pit, complete with wood! Thanks, Glenn!
As usual, a really fun crew to shoot the breeze with after the fishing.
Great to see a visit from FL resident Jeremiah. Also nice to see DEN out on the water with Paul D.
The Pauls having some fun.
Special props to Frank & Scott J., who hold the record for attending the most Piketoberfests since the start in 2002. (Kapt. also holds this distinction but, is home on the mend after his fall.)
Brandon passing the torch. The trophy is in need of some repairs, so Brandon went easy on him. (Kapt., get well and re-enforce this thing for next year!)
And last but not least, the food! Sorry, I didn't get too many pics, but as usual, it's impossible to leave Piktoberfest hungry!
Awesome times! Thanks everyone! Oh- and i didnt get 3rd place raffle.... dont remember who did... (I still say a beer drinkin castin contest was in order.... lol)
Congrats Bald Pelican and all attendees for this long lived CTF event!
I think a on dry land casting contest whoever gets in or closest to the frisbee, hoop, net, beer can wins 1st, 2nd, 3rd as the Pike or lack of Pike dictate.
