The river was surprisingly high this afternoon, there must have been significant rain up north. I started with a top water under the dark and threatening sky, but no takers in the heavy flow. Went to a green pumpkin ned rig banged along the rocky bottom.
This was the ticket and I landed 4 decent smallies.
They fought like much bigger fish in the powerful current. Good times!
River fish always seem to fight bigger than they are….but those are fun fish on light tackle!
No fuss, No muss in terms of wrangling a boat either!
That makes shorter trips very relaxing.
Exactly! I can get out for a few hours and scratch my itch. I hope to get back on my boat later this week. My life is upside down right now so any chance I get I try to go.
I missed this original post. Great fish and time. Very dark looking Smallmouth, unless it was just the lighting of the pics. They’re such a GREAT species, and I generally don’t target them in CT….and do miss them.
Glad fishing is good therapy for you. It is for many of us under many different times in our life. Life is full of challenges (and great rewards), tomorrow is another day, and things always pass and get better.
