I took a ride to check out one of my wading spots on the Connecticut river today. As soon as I got there, I knew it was going to be a struggle. I stayed on shore to be safe, and threw a Topwater for the first 10 minutes and did catch one 12 inch spunky smallmouth that jumped a few times and fought well in the heavy current. Unfortunately, the water is flowing at a springtime level and is extremely off colored, so I knew that it was going to be futile. I did throw a 3.8 keitech on a 3/8 oz jig head, but never had a touch the rest of the trip. Only stayed for an hour knowing it would be an exercise in casting practice.

Have you ever hit the Willimantic or Naugatuck for smallies? No tourney winners, but plenty of action. Did a float trip on the Naugy w/ ctfer Jeramiha sp?, lot of action. Picked up a few on the Willi the year before on a short float trip. Less turds to dodge.
