I've enjoyed opening day with my father for as long as I remember, if you get there early and don't mind a little hike into the woods you'll be coming out with your limit before the rest of the people even wet a line. Just my 2 cents.......

Some of the best childhood memories I have are with my dad on opening day.
You can say anything foolish to a dog, and that dog will still give you a look that says, "WOW!! What a great idea!! I never would have thought of that!!"
Some people are born on third base, then spend the rest of their lives thinking they hit a triple.

So it is still just traditon and $$$
vs.
More fish year round
Being able to fish year round
Less Drunken idiots to deal with
Less litter
Less people fighting for spots that already see lots of fishing pressure
Less Work for Encon
Less overall impact on the enviroment in general .
I am sure there are more positives to abolishing opening day than keeping it that I am forgetting right now.
and I see you all are passionate about opening day ,how about a donation to the CTF Trout Club Stocking ???? Check out the post in the Groups and Clubs forum.

After just noticing this post now, I'd have to that there's no use or reason of having a closed season for trout with only certain places still open. I've never understood that with having a season for trout, why not have the season still opened in March and early April instead of having it open in the dead of summer when the water really warms up which trout don't like? For people like me who have no special schedule on fishing during the year for cetain types of freshwater fish, they should still have most lakes, ponds, and rivers open year round for trout fishing. With me not having a job right now, but trying and trying to look, I have all the time to get out for fishing. So I just wish Great Hollow Lake was opened year round because that's the closest place for me to fish for trout and I have to rely on somebody to get me there without having to go too far since I don't have a car. So why have a closed season?
If bluefish were to grow as big as giant bluefins, then there would be nothing left out there except for blues!

quote "We need to break away from traditions and start doing what is best for the fishery."
Its tough to brake traditions just ask my mom who goes to the catholic church every sunday asking forgiveness from the priest who he himself should be doing the asking..
Quote " opening day presents us with it's own set of problems, and taxes the resources that are available. In the long run, it limits the potential for a greater trout fishing experience.....There's no easy solution...it's like a "tradition" or "addiction" that you love but realize is no good for you." great analogy Fishbags....
I concure...get rid of opening day and this site is the springboard to do it.. I vote all the guys above to head up the commitee to change the law...then again I havent fished opening day since I was a kid,, I try not to fish on the week ends either..I hate the crowds...
