I love opening day, I take the entire day off from work just to hang out with my friends and catch a few stocked fish. There's just something about it that has always appealed to me. I might even join the crazies in riverton this year just for the hell of it!

If you're thinking the way I think you are, I feel the same way.
The way I feel about Opening Day is discontinue trout season for most places. Make many rivers TMA so you can fish it year round. Lakes and ponds that get stocked but still have a good population of other freshwater fish should be made into some sort of management area that prohibits that taking of and fishing for trout during a certain time of year. If most rivers were to be made into TMA, only certain areas should be because you have the caring fishermen at one section and the early bird poachers in another.
If bluefish were to grow as big as giant bluefins, then there would be nothing left out there except for blues!
Parents who don't teach thier kids the outdoors, internet, video games, soccer, little league, parents that have to work on Saturday, less stocked trout, higher prices for everything, areas being poached and dealing with crowds (at some areas) are just a few reasons why there are less people on opening day.

Bruiser, you want an "antic" story?Years ago I saw a guy wade out and stand right in front of a wounded vet in a wheelchair.I asked him about this action and got the evil eye and silence....seriously?

I still love opening day, despite all the crap that surrounds it. It's more of a tradition to me than anything. I've come to the point in my life that you have to take the good with the bad, and thats with everything not just opening day. I go to a trout park mostly to watch my girlfriend catch a few fish and watch some kids and older folk who can't navigate a river bank anymore. I don't care who you are when there is a fish at the end of your line there is a smile on your face. Love seeing this. Hope opening day stays forever. Not enough traditions left anymore.

....I spend more time picking up trash and bottles than I do fishing on that day,I`ll pick up trash right in front of the slobs who dumped it,hoping to shame . .The spots that get wrecked are the ones me,lynne and ozz use the rest of the year, long after these guys have hung it up.
