No kid wants to fish all day and try every lure in their box or every different kind of bait that is out there, thats not going to get them interested in fishing, going out and catching a **** load of fish is gonna keep them going back for more
Panfish would work for this purpose and they are abundant with no closed season.
Would you piss away 60% of your annual income in a 2 week period ?

its not pissing it away, it is bringing in more revenue to the state! What do you do for a living? I run my own company and you have to spend money to make money!! And even as a kid, who wants to fish for panfish? your just being selfish, like I said before....Join a club!!!

So what?? That's the way it has been for 30 years!!! That's why the state stocks multiple times throughout the year.
My .02 is let the people catch their fish..

i dont see any problem with 60% being used that is what they stock them for what drives me crazy is the people that go out with 5 people that all keep a limit and then takes the fish and lets them get freezer burn then throws them away that is what realy get to me. But if that scares you look at the percent of deer shot in the first weekend of gun season in relation to all the other deer killed that year.

Mike,
Its the same. The fish get caught out. Then hopefully they put some more in in a few weeks.
I will stay out of this because I don't fish fresh much anymore.

Dr.Tman : I am good
The DEP stocking trout in places they do not have a chance at surviving in is another problem. Why waste the resource knowing the fish are going to die ? The DEP could save alot of money but not stocking every little puddle with trout.
A big chunk of the DEP's budget is alloted to the trout program.Maybe if the DEP got rid of opening day they could stock less trout in less places and put the extra money into other programs OR raise bigger quality trout to stock into the places that provide suitable habitat for a trout to survive year round.Does the state stock other species(pike, walleye) in places they will not survive ? Answer is a definate NO ,so why do it with trout
I am starting to get the feeling that the trout program and opening day are nothing more than a way to dump $$ into local economy's ! Trout seem to be the sacrificial fish of CT.

A week or so after opening day the “Put N Takers” usually hang up their rods because they can’t "CATCH A LIMIT”. The remaining stock acclimates to the surroundings and become more natural. In the end there are more gorgeous trout for the “Real Fishermen” to keep or release. The opening day tradition can live on in my opinion because the best Trout fishing comes afterwards anyways.
