I’ve hit some river spots over the past few weeks, but honestly the bite has been tough. Bright sun and sweltering heat and humidity kept my trips shorter and were pretty disappointing, but you go when you can go, and catch what bites. Unfortunately, not much bit!
I finally had a decent trip, although I lost more fish than I landed. I lost 3 or 4 when they buried up in the grass. No big ones, just fun sizers so I didn’t care so much.
It’s just fun to get out and give it a shot and see what the river gives you.

Jon,
That's a nice trip. That grass in the pictures looks like some pretty nasty stuff to get a fish out of. It has to be chalked up to the price of admission. The alternative would be to take a chapter from the "bass pros" and fish with 30lb or better braid that would enable you to cut through a lot of that vegetation. It does work but to me it just does not feel right. I would rather lose a few with appropriate tackle than bring a big gun to a knife fight. With a little luck, we will get some rain that raises the water level, giving you just the little edge you need.
The most important thing is that you enjoy your trips. It looks like a lot of fun the way you are doing it. If ain't broke; don't fix it.
