I see Quillinan Reservoir in Ansonia is listed in the 2011 CT Anglers Guide. But Sunday while a friend and I were gonna check it out, we saw fencing along the Beaver St side with signs saying "No Trespassing".
Is it fishable? If so, how can I get access?
If bluefish were to grow as big as giant bluefins, then there would be nothing left out there except for blues!
Mike, it is an open fishery! those signs were from the time when the water company owned the property. Since that time, the state purchased the land and turned it over to the town as open space. I grew up a short walk from there and have fished it since i was old enough to hold a rod. (even if it wasnt "legal" at the time)! To access, your best bet is to enter off of Buswell St. (google map it or GPS), its on the opposite side of the falls. theres a parking area there as well. from there make ur way towards the water. It is extremely overgrown now due to the town taking it over but youll find some clear spots here and there. the corner nearest the parking area is the shallowest, only 2'-3'. the deepest area is closer to the waterfall. theres pretty much a trench that runs from center of falls all the way back straight towards the rear of the pond where the stream feeds it. ( they dredged it quite a few years back to reconstruct the spillway, thats how i know what the foundation of the pond looks like). I have always had good luck hittin the largemouth in there. youll get ur typical perch, sunfish, etc... as well.. If you walk the trails to the rear of the pond, youll come to the stream that feeds it. there youll hook up with some native trout. Always loved fishing that place. best of luck!
