Driving by candlewood today wishing I could be out there I noticed 3 people in a boat enjoyig a nice day of fishing, to far for me to yell to them and make them aware of the seson being closed.(in trout stocked waterways) I think it would be a good idea to put some signs up at the boat ramps making people aware of the closed season if there arent already.

Actually Trout season is closed - Fishing season is open- Not familiar with Candlewood so I cant comment on the legality of fishing in that specific lake - Tim
Actually posting signs at boat launches works pretty well. I do this at Ball Pond. I make up my own sign that says, "Ball Pond is closed to fishing until April 17th". I post about six signs on trees, at the ramp itself, and on the bulletin boards. So far I have had two guys about 20 years old launch anyway and fish but were yelled at by a water front landowner so they came in and I spoke to them also. There were situations right after it was stocked and before the signs went up with guys fishing at the ramp. Unfortunately, we stocked the day if poured and the two DEP guys did not have raingear so they wanted to stock the ramp so they could back into the water and just toss the fish. The actual stocking point is mid lake at a beach where we can get them into deep water. Anyway, with schools of trout swimming around in two feet of water this attracted anyone with a rod in the car. But with the signs up this kind of fishing stopped. If you have a favorite spot that gets poached a lot make up your own signs and post the opening day regulations, it will make a difference.

If you call 800-842-4357 when you see a violation we can try to get an officer out there.
Talked with a guy at work today who said he was out on Candy on Sat and that they were really biting. He was really surprised there wasn't more guys out there until I told him the lake was closed until the 17th. He's not a boundary pusher by nature and was truly embarassed. Some guys just don't know and need to be reminded or introduced.
We have to go to a sign program next year. The signs make a difference. We need an "official" CTF sign that states the season info and when the waters open again for fishing. Put the sign in a PDF file that you can download and print out. Meanwhile, there is no reason you can't just write the info on a standard piece of printer paper and make a dozen copies and go staple them to trees at the launches or anywhere where there has been poaching. This will stop a lot of poaching because there are people who just don't know and those who know will understand that people are concerned and will be watching.

One Thing that confuses a lot of people is the fact that the season is open in New York on April 1st. I think we should also open it up then. At least then there is a little uniformity along the border areas.
Have a safe time on the water and may that tight line be pulling back.
