October 8th to be a “Free Fishing Day” No fishing license will be required to fish in Connecticut on October 8th Excellent opportunity for anglers to introduce their sport to others
The Department of Energy & Environmental Protection (DEEP) has designated Saturday, October 8th as a “Free Fishing Day” where no fishing license will be required to fish in Connecticut waters. This opportunity will be available to both residents and non-residents and applies to both inland and marine waters. DEEP has a number of initiatives intended to connect Connecticut’s citizens with the outdoors and our natural resources and this designated “Free Fishing Day” provides another option. “We view this as a great opportunity for experienced anglers to get a family member, friend or acquaintance outdoors and introduce them to the sport of fishing,” said Susan Frechette, Deputy Commissioner of DEEP. “We thought that the Saturday of what is for many a three day weekend would be a good choice to offer a free chance to fish. It’s also prime fall foliage viewing time throughout the state, and a number of great trout fishing areas were recently stocked.” DEEP reminds non-residents that they can also take advantage of “Free Fishing Day” this weekend. “We hope that visitors to our state try one of the many fishing opportunities Connecticut has to offer added Frechette. “Although we’re viewed as a small state, visitors will be pleasantly surprised by the variety and quality of outdoor experiences available here.” DEEP advises anglers to check fishing regulations in their 2011 Connecticut Angler’s Guide. Guides are available from many Town Clerks and bait & tackle stores, or by contacting DEEP’s Inland Fisheries Division (860-424-FISH). The Angler’s Guide and Weekly Fishing Reports can be found on the DEEP web site at: www.ct.gov/dep/fishing. # # #
