I was wondering about the seasonal status of unlisted ponds like swan and mirror lakes in Storrs. If they are not listed is it safe to assume that they are open all year? Does the stocking of trout have a lot to do with seasonal status? I have never fished these ponds but have heard good reports from both of them. There are quite a few unlisted ponds that I know of, but no real clarification on the open season status. I hope I don"t regret asking this but, I want to be in compliance.

Unless a pond or lake is specifically listed as having a closed season it is open year round. Generally the lakes/ponds that are stocked with trout have a closed season. In some the season is closed for bass management also.

I went over to that warm water discharge on mirror the other night just to remember what it feels like to cast open water. caught a short bass on a red/black wacky worm. you weren't thinking about getting out on the ice there were you?

naw, just liked the idea of catching a few bass in the between season. glad to hear that you got one. That ice looks like sketch city, i wont be going out there. Weather looks like it will be above freezing for the next week or so. I expect ice out soon. maybe we can get a trip or 2 up there.

I wouldn't trust the ice on mirror lake but swan lake may still have safe ice. Although, I don't know what Uconn PD's opinion is of people doing that. I may try it at some point. During the open water season, I usually fish spinners and jigs in Swan. Hopefully I'll catch up with you guys at some point.
