Yesterday, June 24th, Monday....we were fishing across the sound at Shoreham, Long Island NY (Can 7).
Around 11:30 we decided to come back across from Shoreham to New Haven. What we saw was quite remarkable. The sound was a blood/rust color....not muddy or silty but a definite red color. I am guessing it was a red tide but have never seen this in 55 years fishing the sound. The area of red was approximately east to west horizon and from north to south approx 2 miles. We were approx. 6 miles from the NY shoreline damn near mid sound.
I should have taken a water sample.
Mike (O-Bass) & Walt (Jighead) were witnesses to the phenomenom also.
Just thought I would notify you guys & I am also contacting the DEC in NY. But a portion of this red tide was in CT waters.
Hi Allison.....The crab and/or sandworm hatches I have seen resembled nothing like what is seen in the link I've provided.......again the normal coloration of the sound had the red a bit more subdued to a red/rust color.

In Bombings, we blame the Bomber. In Drunk Driving deaths we blame the Driver. In Shootings we Blame the Gun ??
