All,
The Broodstock Atlantic salmon stocking is still a go. The first batch of fish is set to go. Watch the papers or this site for a press release very shortly. Other stockings will follow next month, after the fish are spawned. Due to severe damage suffered at the White River Federal hatchery in Vermont, from Tropical Storm Irene, we will not be taking any salmon from there in 2011. All of the fish will be coming from our Kensington Hatchery this year. Thus numbers will be down slightly. Some other disappointing news is that we will not be stocking the Campville section of the Naugatuck, just for this year. The Army Corp of engineers has closed the Thomaston Dam Flood control area to due to flooding damage. There will be no small game hunting in this area as well. This includes the dirt access road along the western side of the river up through Campville. In Western, CT the fish will be stocked in Mt. Tom Pond and in the lower Naugatuck River (Naugatuck to Beacon Falls). In the East, the fish will be stocked in Crystal Lake and the Shetucket River. As an aside, Kensington Hatchery is safe for now and the program will continue for the foreseeable future.
