The way I read it you need a permit to PURCHASE/TRANSFER long guns and ammo, not a permit to possess. I've read the law 4 times now and I can't find anything that requires a permit to carry or possess for anything other than a pistol or an assault weapon. So, unless you are selling your ammo of shotgun to someone in front of the officer we have no need to see anything other than your hunting license, duck stamps and HIP.
