On inland bodies of water with a 10 hp limit and between one hour before sunrise and one hour after sunset, no boating safety certificate is required for a person operating an electric motor (rated at 106 lbs. of thrust or less). However the vessel must be registered. Be advised some lakes and ponds prohibit all motors and some just internal combustion, most are listed in the boating guide, those that are not may have regulations from their respective towns.
