Curious if the "crab hotel" type crab traps are legal under any specific circumstances in CT. I was told they were not and that seems to be the understanding of some people. However, you can buy them in certain bait shops in CT and others think they may be legal if you are actually using one while actively crabbing and not just setting it out overnight for for a few days.
Can you clarify when, if ever, it would be legal to use a self-fishing crab trap.

Mycept, i am glad someone mentioned this. Back in the late 90's we had a really good year for crabs and everyone was selling traps. A bunch of shops were selling the traps that you mention that fish themselves. I don't think you can use them because the regs say, "the trap must be attended at all times".
Just a wild guess , but I have to wonder if the prohibition of these types of traps has something to do with the protection of Diamondback Terrapins . If they get in a trap and can't get out they'll drown .
I know they go after crab bait 'cause I caught one years ago in a "star" type trap . Fastest turtle I've ever seen , it was gone in a flash when I opened the trap !

"Politically correct" was initially coined by Leon Trotsky to refer favorably to those whose views remained in sync with the ever-shifting Bolshevik Party line. This was important, as "not PC" people risked prison or death.
