I was stopped yesterday for speeding on candlewood lake. So candlewood lake authority tells me are you fishing a tournament and I reply yes, he says to me you know theres a speed limit on the lake and I said yes and he says okay well you was going 52mph on a 45mph speed limit, I look at him and tell him theres no way I was going that fast when I just took off. He then reaches grabs his radar gun and shows me the speed he clocked me at and it said 47mph and tells me oh that the second time I clocked you at, I told him that 47mph sound right i don't know about the 52mph. So he gets all my stuff and starts writing me a ticket for speeding, my dad reaches over to hold the boats together and he says let go of the boat. Why he said that I have no clue, so he proceeds to fill out the ticket and we both kind of floated away from each other a bit and I'm saying to myself whats taking so long to write a ticket and before you know it he takes off. I look at my dad and we both are like what the hell is he doing. He goes up to another bass boat as we sit there watching him turns and goes into echo bay after a few he comes out running out of echo bay and goes up to the squantz area of the lake, while me and my dad sat in lattins cove wondering what in the world is this guy doing and when is he going to give me back my license and my paper work. Okay so now after sitting in lattins for about 30mins I decided to go look for him and see what the hell is going on. I run up the lake where he went and I go up the third arm and I don't see him I come back down and decide to fish one of my shores and wait to see if he goes by and then run him down. After 5mins go by I see the boat kind of coming out of squantz cove so I turn on my boat and go after him, as im trying to catch him he pulls up to another bass boat and then relizes im behind him and sure enough he has another guy in the boat with him this time. Well that other guy was the DEC cop they pull up to me and tells me you are DQed from your tournament and you must leave the lake NOWWW. I look at him and asked him why and he said go to launch and don't ask any questions we will talk to you there. So I drive to squantz where I launched and park my boat they park beside me, the DEC cop tells me im DQed from the tournament for the citations I will be recieving and I tell him for speeding he said no for leaving the scene, I get so pissed off and tell him I never left the scene that it was the candlewood lake authority who left me stranded at lattins. The candlewood lake authority tells me im giving you two tickets and I told him yeah one for speeding at 47mph and the other. He says no and walks away. Now I just looked up fishing tournaments at candlewood and in there it says nothing about me getting DQed for getting a ticket and Im sure this candlewood lake authority confused me for some other boats driving by and thought I left the scene when I floated about 4boats length away from him. I will now be seeking to go to court for this and probably be getting a lawyor for a lawsuit.

Manuel - I just spoke to my officer (not the CLA officer). If you are participating in a tournament and receive an infraction/summons for any violation most tournaments DQ you for that. This is not a state regulation, it is a tournament rule. My officer didn't DQ you, he advised you to contact the tournament director.
As you discussed with my officer, he was not there to see the speeding violation and was only called in at the request of the CLA officer after the fact.
You have two options. Pay the ticket or plead not guilty. If you plead not guilty you can explain what happened to the court and they will make a decision as to the outcome.
If you would like to pursue a complaint against the CLA officer you have that option open to you also. If you wish to do so, send me an email (my email address is below in my signature) with all your contact information and an explanation of what occurred and what your complaint is - please, just the facts not an emotion filled diatribe, and I will have one of our supervisors contact you to follow up on it.
Good luck with that. You were speeding and got nailed. Not sure what the second offense was for? (Leaving the scene?). The authority on the lake has to be very responsive because of the most recent incidents associated to accidents. Where are you from CT?

Well that is a bizarre story. I have dealt with the CLA from time to time and there are a few young guns that do try and make a statement but all in all they really don't have that reputation.
Wow not even 10 mph over and they nailed you. That sucks!
CHANGE IS SCARY BUT IT IS REWARDING ON THE OTHER SIDE!

This is why you need to be able to video tape yourself when dealing with this type of BS. Nothing to hide if you are doing things by the book, now is there...?

If I understand the law correct if you pay that tickect you are omitting to guilt and you will lose your licence and will have to go to court to get it back.
"A man has to do what he believes: I believe I'll go fishing"
[My officer didn't DQ you, he advised you to contact the tournament director]
This is not true at all.. When I approached the CLA officer and the DEC Cop, The DEC cop told me as follow "You are DQed from your tournament and you must leave the water NOW". When I reached the ramp he told me again what reasons I was being DQed for and why I was being removed from the water. He told me I was being DQed and removed from the water for the two citations I was getting one for speeding and one for leaving the scene.
Now my question to you is I would like to see this in writing in your rules that says you are suppose to remove someone from the water just for tickets? Give me a link to your rules or laws thanks.
