Now that NY does not have a saltwater licence does a NY resident need a salt water non resident ct licence to fish in CT salt water? Or does it still fall under the same bordering state rule as last year?

I'd assume they need the CT non resident. Conversely, I'm still assuming the need for a NY nonresident SW license for waters not covered by a CT license. I have the ny nonres sw already.

A NY resident did not need a license last year and you did not need one to fish the sound in NY if you had a CT saltwater license.

DEP??? Before I get stopped with a guest on my boat I would like to know the real law. Do not want to get caught in another Southbury false arrest problem where the officer did not know the correct law.

I hear you... I've joked many times that all saltwater fisherman are going to need a fishing buddy who's a lawyer to bring with them on all trips to decode these chaotic, inconsistent state laws.

I'm still not convinced that NY residents will not need a CT non-resident SW license. Here's all that's posted to this point.

Lets change this question around.
Will a CT Resident need a non resident NY license to fish the South Side of Fishers Island and bring their catch home legally to a CT Port?
We were told that registration or licensing in CT would satisfy the Federal regulations for registration, even if it costs us more.
As reciprocity is no longer an issue, due to the elimination of NY licences, CAN I FISH NY WATERS, AND RETURN TO CT WITHOUT VIOLATING THE LAW?
All of this assumes of course that the good folks from CT have paid for a Salt Water license which satisfies all of the federal requirements, now all we're asking, is it any good and what does it cover?
Is that too much to ask from a state or state employee that seems to be more interested in your fee than explaining it to you?

NY abolished their license on the grounds that it was taxation without representation. There isn't one any more,.

This lack of clarity is the EXACT reason I purchased my NY Non-Resident Marine license. Even though they have posted the suspension of the license (clearly for residents), I can still access and purchase a non-resident marine via D.E.C.A.L.S. (I just checked)

Guys, please correct me if I'm wrong!!

From what I read, NY only eliminated the fees associated with the Saltwater license but you are still required to have one to fish NY waters. If that's the case and a NY resident has their "free" Salt license and NY has reciprocity with CT, why would they also have to purchase a CT non-resident license??

Now on a side note, does anyone know if they plan on giving those that already bought and paid for a licdense any rebate??

Rick...according to the NY Site (
http://www.dec.ny.gov/permits/54950.html)

Quote:
Refunds for lifetime licenses are expected to be sent out during this calendar year. There are no provisions in the newly enacted legislation to refund other marine license fees.
