I don't mind seeing them go, every time I went some a$$hole was snagging them. I got sick every time I went of having to deal with the knuckle draggers doing this kind of crap. Want a salmon? Go to where they are wild and where if you see someone snagging one you give them a a beating.
I fished the Campville area once, which I assume you are referring to. There is more than just that, especially east. If the fishery is lost, then a lot of people would be dissapointed. If what JEREMIAH says is true then it sounds like a good effort was made to let it continue despite the recent challenges.
I had many a good times on the river in the fall and winter..
does anyone from DEP have any info????? thanks Jeremiah, I fish the salmon all winter and it would suck to see that program die, I even landed a freshy opening day for trout, it made the trip on 4lb test, as close to NY as we are going to get here in CT, my vote is lower Naugy also, reopen high rock which is a prime area.
Jeremiah sad to hear it go for you. I have been cursed with being overly observant and with an inability to turn the other way. Not saying you do this but it just seems there are so many A$$holes now a days. It amazes me at times what I see people do, I don't pheasant hunt anymore because some crazy Portuguese guy almost shot my dog because she was chasing a running pheasant and I can't remember how many times I have run into someone poaching on the Farmington River etc.... It goes on and on with little help from DEEP because of budget constraints.
I guess I just got way too used to living in Maine and running around in the woods and not seeing a soul for an entire season.
Back home we got a taxidermy man. He gonna have a heart attack when he see what I brung him.
Note to crazyone- if the DEEP actually ticketed, arrested, impounded all gear upto and including the poachers vehicle - I'm positive poachers would think twice...25+ yrs solo on the water and I have yet to see that happen... All they like to do is write tickets that 1. dont get pd cuz when they hit the clerck at court, they laugh n nthrow it away...2. if they do get pd, who givwes a shi' becuz theyre back on the water the next or even same day (seen this) doing it again.... A real Joke (trying not to talk smack- but I AM throwing it out there)..... any comments fellas??
The other day I was in a parking lot. There was a car parked in a handicapped parking space with no sticker with a police car next to it. Figured he was issuing a ticket, he got out and stuck a small card in the window on the driver and drove away. No ticket.
All, The Broodstock Atlantic salmon stocking is still a go. The first batch of fish is set to go. Watch the papers or this site for a press release very shortly. Other stockings will follow next month, after the fish are spawned. Due to severe damage suffered at the White River Federal hatchery in Vermont, from Tropical Storm Irene, we will not be taking any salmon from there in 2011. All of the fish will be coming from our Kensington Hatchery this year. Thus numbers will be down slightly. Some other disappointing news is that we will not be stocking the Campville section of the Naugatuck, just for this year. The Army Corp of engineers has closed the Thomaston Dam Flood control area to due to flooding damage. There will be no small game hunting in this area as well. This includes the dirt access road along the western side of the river up through Campville. In Western, CT the fish will be stocked in Mt. Tom Pond and in the lower Naugatuck River (Naugatuck to Beacon Falls). In the East, the fish will be stocked in Crystal Lake and the Shetucket River. As an aside, Kensington Hatchery is safe for now and the program will continue for the foreseeable future.
