This is from the Fishing booklet,
new regulation
• Trout:
»»From 6:00 a.m. 3rd Saturday April–last
day February, 12" to 16" protected slot
limit. Daily creel limit—5, only 1 may
be 16" or greater.
»»From March 1–March 31; Daily creel
limit—1, 16" minimum length.
• Broodstock Atlantic salmon have
been stocked several times into this
lake, first in 2007 and most recently
in December, 2011. Regulations for
salmon are the same as for trout
except: Daily creel limit—1 Atlantic
salmon.

The fishing season for me is 3rd Sat in April till maybe Oct 1.

My question is, if I'm fishing by myself, and I catch 5 trout, NOT in the slot, I understand that i can keep all 5 trout, and I can only keep 4 trout less than 12 inches and one over 16 inches. Is this correct?

My next question, if the above question is accurate, how does the Salmon regulation work. Say I also catch 1 salmon, along with what I described above, can I keep all 6 fish? Or do i have to return the 16 inch trout, or one of the other non-slot fish?

And as I read the regulation(s), this applies to each occupant of the boat, regardless of age or the number of people in the boat?

Thanks for clearing up my lack of understanding to the regulation(s).

Each person has their own creel limit.

You are correct in your understanding of the slot limit for trout.
The regulation for Salmon is more directed at the season and method of take being the same as trout not the size or slot limit. The broodstock salmon that are stocked are usually much larger than 16".

Just so I fully understand, I can keep 1 trout over 16 inches and one salmon over 16 inches and i can ONLY keep 3 trout NOT in the slot, for a total of 5 fish maximum?

The way I would read it is, Trout you get to keep 5 total, and of those 5 fish, none can be from the protected slot limit, and only one can be over 16 inches. Soi the other 4 would have to be less than 12 inches.

I would read the Salmon regulation as a seperate species and would think you can keep 1 of them aside from your trout limit.

So you could potentially keep 6 fish total between Trout and Salmon.

I might be wrong, but that's how I read it.

It is only when you see a mosquito landing on your testicles, that you realize that there is always a way to solve problems without using violence ...

FarmerJay, your interpretation is exactly why I posted the question to EnCon Police. Before I walk off the boat launch with 6 fish in my creel, and the local DEP or Police write me a ticket for having unauthorized number of fish I would like EnCon Police to absolutely define how many fish and combination of fish/species are allowed to be taken/kept.

5 TROUT total - one over 16" the rest can be under the slot - no fish in the slot.

Trout creel/slot limits do NOT apply to Salmon. Salmon have their own regulation which is 1 per day, the only thing the same between Salmon and Trout is the season and method of take.

That means you can go to Crystal Lake, take 4 11" and 1 17" trout for a total of 5 and 1 Salmon.

Salmon are a different species - if you go trout fishing and catch a bass the bass does not count against your trout creel limit, same thing with the salmon.
