Don't believe there is any restriction on distance from a road for ANY TYPE of hunting (firearm or bow). The only restriction is 500 ft from occuppied dwelling...and oh yeah, shooting across the road or from the road. So in other words you can be inches off the road, shooting into the woods and you are legal.

I had a guy telling me that I had to be 500 feet from his shed that was at the edge of his property line because he kept his ATVs and gas cans in there. Mind you - the house was about 1000 feet from this shed. I never pushed the issue because I could move but I was always curious if this was the intent of the law - do gas cans count.
The law reads "occupied dwelling". No way do gas cans count, but I would assume it refers to people and livestock.
Honestly - I assumed that also but never pushed the issue becuase I didn't need to and the regulations actually supported what this guy was saying..
Here are the regs from the guide:
500 Foot Zone - It is prohibited to hunt with, shoot, or carry a loaded firearm within 500 feet of any building occupied by people or domestic animals, or used for storage of flammable material, or within 250 feet of such buildings when waterfowl hunting in tidal areas from land shooting positions or from floating blinds anchored adjacent to land or from rock positions, unless written permission for lesser distances is obtained from the owner and carried. Landowners, their spouse, and lineal descendants are exempt from this restriction, providing any building involved is their own. The 500 foot zone does not apply to bowhunting.

I was wrong. Nice loophole for the antis. IF I were a PETA-pocket, I would put a trash bin with a small gas can on all the corners of my property and use this as my trump card...
yeah I agree. I just never asked to determine whether a gas can fits the intent of the law of if that was somehow refering to something more substantial
