I have a piece of property I hunt that has a creek running through it. With no rain this yr it has dryed up. Is it legal to say take a big plastic bin and fill it with water. I was thinking of digging a hole to drop it in the creek bed so it will catch any run off and keeping filling it with any rain we might get. This is not in a legal baiting area and not sure if this could be taken as baiting. Thanks for your time and help.

Great question. I know guys make water holes/sources out west by running hoses from small creeks/seeps into dryer lowland areas for elk.

spots near water will be good this year, at least until we get enough rain to fill everything up again.

"Any food, mineral, or chemical product designed to be eaten by deer is considered bait." pg 22

Is drinking eating?

I'd have to think that creating the source would be legal , but that actually killing a deer using it would not . Technically you would be creating a baited situation . You might also be running afoul of laws pertaining to the altering of the streambed . Probably best to just call the DEEP and ask , this sub forum is pretty dead lately .

.

"Politically correct" was initially coined by Leon Trotsky to refer favorably to those whose views remained in sync with the ever-shifting Bolshevik Party line. This was important, as "not PC" people risked prison or death.

Naturally occurring ice is considered a mineral but water is not a solid so not a mineral. I don't think having a water source would be considered baiting but , I would wanna get the answer from straight from deep to be 100% on this one it's a great question. No officer that's a giant bird bath wink

I was hoping to find this out before the season. We didn't get enough rain in my area to put anything in the stream/ creek. Still dry to the bone.
