Ok. i had seen some indications a year ago, but this year Mudge lake has a huge, very visable population of alewife living in the lake, which can bee seen early morning in large, sometimes very large schools.

my real report is to inquire about weed control measures along the eastern bank, beginning aproximately 200-300 yards before the religious camp, and covering the shore until thier docks. 2 weeks previous, weed growth was heavy and very visable in and in front of the lily pads leading up to and around the southern portion of the camp shoreline, and in front of the creek before it. this week, apparently a near total die off has mysteriously occured, with no posted signs indicating that toxic weed chemicals were authorised. indications of a weed harvester are not apparent; no piles of weeds or clumps of weeds on shore, no reduced weed growth in the water from trimming (cut marks)...its all just gone. pondweed, milfoil, even some of the pads... dissapeared!

the use of toxins to control weeds is absurd, but it especially bothers me when a pristine lake like mudge, which has a teriffic fish population, and recieves less pressure than most lakes, has monitored and restrictive boating regs, and by all acounts is in great shape aquatically overall, has something happen like this. i would like to know if chemical weed control measures were authorized for this gem of the NW, and inform the authorities as to what i have wittnessed in the lake this week.
