4.May: The Wall. I hit the wall early for a change, at 8:30 am, to beat the rain forecast for this afternoon. It turned out to be a good call.
On arrival there were about a dozen shadholics taking casting practice. It seemed nobody was catching. By 10:am a couple or 3 had been caught, and it seemed to pick up a little bit; little being the operative word. About 10:30 I finally set the hook into something other than an alewife. I fat white perch. About 15 minutes later I had a solid hook set, into also not an alewife. A middling buck shad that didn't have much fight in it. Of course it inhaled the hook, so that went into somebody's cooler. And that turned out to be my vitamin shad for the day. By the time the rain started in earnest, around 2:30 pm, I had only seen maybe a dozen or so shad caught in the time I was there.
And speaking of rain, the forecast is not looking good for the first half of the week. I'll take it day to day, but it doesn't look like I'll be out much this week.
Terminal tackle: 1.5 oz drail over a 4' flouro 10# leader, and a hammered silver leaf in pink w/white stripe & black dot.
