jack most of the salmon wouldnt touch an alewife in my experience,they usually cruise very shallow water just looking for a way out and arent interested in chasing something they have never eaten before,ive caught lots of them in rhode island and ct and have never seen a speck of anything in thier stomachs.im all for stocking more of them in lakes,better than letting them all wash into the ocean and better than catching just stockies.the reason for the crash in size for trout at crystal is its way overstocked with trout just like east twin,10-12000 or something like that,way too many.
