I love the idea of year round stocking. I bet the guys doing the stocking would rather not have to kill themselves every year to stock all those spots in such a short time either.

There's one big problem though. People will have to actually learn how to catch trout. They won't just be "easy pickings" - all piled up at the bridges. They'll be spread all throughout the rivers. They will be a lot less likely to fall for all those cheap imitaion baits like cheese balls and marsh mellows and who knows what else. No longer will anglers be able to stand directly over these uneducated fish in stagnant pools and pick them off one by one.

It's going to be harder - and people will say there are a lot less fish or that they've already all been caught. Some of us will start going even more often, knowing that all the rivers will have fish at any given time, for those that are willing to work for them. But many will stop going, not being able to make the conversion from truck trout to natural trout.

The only group of opening dayers that I feel for are the kids. It's their best shot at a few easy fish. I have a suggestion though. Since the week before the opener is when most schools have their spring vacations anyway - and some of kids sneak out and hammer the trout anyway - Why not make it a kids only week?

Make it so only kids can legally carry a fishing rod for that week and "adults" are only allowed on the water if accompanied by a youth. Maybe without all the adults elbowing them out of the good trout holes, they will learn more about catching trout and actually learn to appreciate the sport.
