Opening day brings attention to our sport to many people that may have never fished before.

"Hey Dad. Can we go fishing on opening day?" "I really want to learn how to fish." "Sure son." Said dad. "I'd love to take you fishing."

When dad and I got to the wondering stream dad showed me everything he knew about fishing. He said grandpa taught him how to fish and that great grandpa taught grandpa how to fish. We caught 20 fish that opening day but only kept 2. Dad said that we threw the trout back so that we can catch them again.

"Boy dad that was fun." "Let's do it again." "I had fun too." Said dad. "I'm sure glad opening day reminded me to take you fishing son."

And there you have it. The single most important reason to have an opening day.
